It's time to join the HEMA Strong Guild

So many others have joined HEMA Strong because they were looking for a smarter way to improve their strength training and nutrition to improve their martial arts training and performance.

You Aren't Alone In Feeling Like That

That’s how I felt when I first started HEMA. While I had some gym experience before, I wasn’t strong in the right way that benefitted my HEMA training. I was strong but not mobile. I could jog and sprint, but I was not explosive or agile. I wasn’t training to be resilient to the injuries that can come from HEMA practice. I wasn’t HEMA Strong. And it was humbling to realize that I had to train better; I had to train smarter.

I started HEMA Strong with the goal of sharing my passion to help others achieve their fitness goals. And now, the coaching team behind HEMA Strong is excited to take things to the next level, the HEMA Strong Guild.

What is The HEMA Strong Guild?

The HEMA Strong Guild was created to help you:

  • Get stronger in the right way, so that you can fight explosively with more intensity and endurance.
  • Understand and implement performance nutrition for your own goals, without the guesswork.
  • Learn to fit in your HEMA training, strength training, and appropriate amount of rest and active recovery without digging through conflicting information.

The HEMA Strong Guild is a coaching experience that is BY HEMA practitioners FOR HEMA practitioners.

We utilize the same nutrition and training practices that we use ourselves with our clients.

We deliver that experience through:
Access to The HEMA Strong Guild Training App. This app allows you to track your workouts, your progress, and cheer each other on!

A private community of other HEMAists who are working together on their goals for accountability and support.

What do current HEMA Strong Guild members think?

I am now in week 8 of the HEMA Strong beginners program and loving it. It was the ultimate professionalism and expertise of Chuck and Michael that made me want to take the jump though, and I'm glad I did. I can definitely feel physical effects from the lifting different to other forms of exercise. I can feel it's effect on my posture and strength in some good ways. I'd also say it's had a positive effect on my fencing as well. HEMASTRONG is HEMA, so as you'd expect, the customer service has been amazing with Chuck and Michael writing back immediately to every question. Chuck has been great at wrestling me into the concept of more nutrition and rest days which older Jack will probably thank him for and Michael has been on the ball with technique concerns and questions about possible pains while lifting. I will definitely recommend this to fencers looking for an extra edge.

The HEMA Strong Coaching program has been a great resource for me. I;ve never been particularly athletic; in fact, I had been significantly overweight most of my life. I had never really engaged in any kind of organized weight training program, and at age 45, I wasn't really looking to start. I did, however, want to become a better swordsman, so when Chuck (who is also a member of Broken Plow) suggested that this program could help me in that endeavor, I jumped at the chance. During the course of this program, I have found both Chuck and Michael to be extremely approachable, knowledgeable, and available. I have learned a great deal from them thus far about nutrition and fitness in general, and lifting in particular. I have also been very pleased with the results of their coaching, which, while easy to follow, has provided a satisfying challenge. I've experienced greater strength and endurance during martial training, and I've gained much more confidence in the gym and in the ring. I would gladly recommend the HEMA Strong Coaching program to any HEMA enthusiast, but I would especially recommend it to fighters who, like me, have little experience with lifting or personal training. Chuck and Michael are superb coaches, and I look forward to continuing to work with them.

Meet Your Coaches

Chuck Gross

Chuck is a certified nutrition coach through Precision Nutrition, and a certified personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise. He’s been coaching people online since 2014, and is the Fitness & Nutrition Instructor for Broken Plow Western Martial Arts in Pittsburgh, PA. Chuck used to be over 400lbs for most of his adult life and has proudly lost and kept off over 200lbs for 10 years. For him, fitness wasn’t something that came naturally and his passion is helping people that feel the same way.

Michael Adams

Michael is a strength and conditioning coach, certified through canfitpro, and a HEMA instructor at the Academy of European Swordsmanship in Edmonton, Alberta. He strives to reach the peak of his own performance for each and every competition, which lead him to achieving a league championship in 2016. With a strong background in strength training, he worked hard to develop his skill set in coaching and expanding his knowledge base to include muscle testing, power-building, explosives training, as well as pain management for back issues.
